Car Detailing: 7 Deadly Sins

Throughout my 15 years as a professional car detailer, I’ve heard of many wacky methods used to detail a car. Some of which caused more damage than good.  So I put together some of these wacky methods and called the list “The 7 Deadly Sins.” Whether you’re a professional, enthusiast or an amateur car detailer, you need to read this list.Car_Detail_dont

  1. Do not wash your car in direct sunlight: Washing your car in direct sunlight may cause the soap to dry before you rinse it off, causing the dry soap to stain the cars finish.
  2. Do not use dish or laundry detergent to wash your car: Using dish washing or laundry detergent strips wax off the cars finish and leaves behind a soap film.
  3. Do not spray rim cleaning chemicals on rims while hot: Spraying chemicals on the rims while hot can cause staining or etching damage to the rims.
  4. Do not dry off a car after it rains without first washing the car: Drying off a car after it rains without first washing it can put micro scratches in the cars finish.
  5. Do not use a steel wool to spot clean or remove stains on your cars finish: Using a steel wool to remove stains or spot clean can cause permanent damage to a cars clear coat.
  6. Do not reuse a clay bar after it drops on the ground: Reusing a clay bar after it drops will transfer dirt onto the cars finish causing damage.
  7. Do not wax your car in direct sunlight: Waxing your car in direct sunlight will make hard to remove (MAKE WHAT HARD TO REMOVE?) and cause an uneven hologram hazy look.

There you go. I hope you found this information useful.  Also, I hope you’re not using any of those methods to detail your car, if you know of any other whacky car detailing methods please tell us about it in our comment box below and we will use some of your comments in future blog post.

Good luck,

Happy Detailing.
